Inregistrarea Username-urilor si a Canalelor(http://cservice.undernet.org)":
Intelegand conceptele de baza despre Serviciul Canalelor Undernet va face ca inregistrarea username-
urilor si a canalelor si intretinerea lor sa fie mult mai usoara.Vom incepe prin invatarea crearii si
inregistrarii userului cu X.Pentru a folosi X sau pentru a inregistra un canal,iti trebuie un username.
Tine minte aceasta NU este inregistrarea unui nickname.Undernet nu ofera inregistrarea nickname-ului.Ca
sa va fie clar acest lucru.
Acum,pentru a crea un username,duceti-va pe site-ul nostru:http://cservice.undernet.org/live.Cam la mij-
locul paginii,sub casuta de autentificare,este un rand scris:"If you do not have an account create one
now!".Apasati cu mouseul pe linkul "Create one".Acolo sunt 8 pasi pe pagina pe care TREBUIE completata
altfel nu veti primi un username.Pasii sunt dupa cum urmeaza:
Pasul 1-Alegerea varstei-Trebuie sa mentonati daca varsta dumneavoastra este mai mica sau mai mare de 13
ani.Daca varsta este mai mica de 13 ani,nu va putem cere datele personale ca numele sau adresa de email
fara consimtamantul parintilor.Aceasta inseamna ca nu va puteti inregistra un username,inainte de a va
verifica.
Pasul 2-Alegerea unui username-Aici veti alege un username.Amintesteti,acesta trebuie sa fie.Sunt peste
140 000 de username-uri.Probabil cineva s-a gandit la acesta inaintea ta.
Pasul 3-Introdu adresa ta de email-Aceasta va fi adresa ta de email,primita de la distribuitorul tau de
internet.Daca nu stii ce adresa de email ai,contacteaza-ti distribuitorul tau de internet.Emailuri gra-
tuite,ca:hotmail,yahoo,geocities,si multe email-uri neplatite nu sunt acceptate pentru inregistrare.A-
ceasta e o cale de prevenire a abuzurilor ale utilizatorilor ai acestor distribuitori.
Pasul 4-Alegerea limbii-Aici vei putea sa iti alegi limba in care doresti sa folosesti comenzile la X si
care iti vor fi trimise mai tarziu.
Pasul 5-Intrebarea secreta/Raspunsul-Aceasta este pentru recuperarea parolei username-ului.Fii sigur
cand ti-ai selectat aceasta optiune in acest camp,sa iti scrii undeva raspunsul tau si sa il pastrezi in
siguranta.Vei avea nevoie de acesta daca iti uiti parola.
Pasul 6-Codul de securitate-Acesta este codul care previne incercarea de a inregistra mai multe username
-uri.Introdu codul pe care il vezi in imaginea alaturata dedesubt de casuta(mai jos/mai sus nu conteaza)
Pasul 7-Citeste aceste informatii:Username-urile sunt individuale,se folosesc pentru a detine access pe
canale.Cat timp nu trebuie sa folosesti canalele nu iti trebuie un username,atentie daca incerci sa in-
registrezi mai multe username-uri de persoana se va ajunge la suspendarea tutturor username-urilor ace-
lei persoane.Nu inregistra mai multe username-uri de pe computerul tau.
In sfarsit,Pasul 8,Apasa pe Submit.Dupa ce faci asta,o adresa iti va fi trimisa in emailul tau.Fii sigur
ca browserul tau accepta cookies sau seteaza-l sa accepte,dupa care apasa cu mouseul pe adresa din emai-
lul tau care ti-a fost trimisa.Aceasta te va duce la o pagina unde vei gasi parola ta.TE ROG sa o scrii
undeva si sa n-o pierzi.Poate fi destul de dificil sa iti amintesti parola daca o pierzi.
Astea sunt partile elementare ale inregistrarii unui username.Daca aveti intrebari,intrati pe #Cservice
si intrebati unul dintre ajutoarele noastre calificate.
In continuare vom arunca o privire la sistemul de inregistrare a canalelor si de intretinere a canalelor
inregistrate cu X:
Orice canal neinregistrat poate fi inregistrat de prima persoana care a intrat pe el.Canalele neinregis-
trate active sunt detinute de grupuri care le folosesc,si de obicei este o indoiala care sunt fondatorii
canalelor.Multe aplicantii ale canalelor sunt inaintate de oameni care nu au nici o legatura cu canalul
sau fac asta fara consimtamantul celor de pe canal.Acestea sunt numite "aplicatii de takeover".Astfel de
aplicatii sunt respinse si aplicantul este pus la proba daca incearca asta de mai multe ori.Cererea pen-
tru suportul inregistrarii aplicatiei este 10 persoane,nu 10 username-uri.In cele din urma,usernameurile
sunt singura cale prin care putem verifica cele 10 persoane,si ca acestia sustin aplicantul ca manager.
De aceea cerem 10 username-uri ca suporteri,in general doar o adresa email este permisa pe persoana cu
un cont ISP.Suporterii trebuie sa fie oameni care frecventeaza canalul tau si te-au ajutat in procesul
de inregistrare a acestuia.Un canal este inregistrat numai dupa ce aplicatia lui a fost acceptata de
CService,nu dupa ce aplicatia a fost inregistrata pe site.Tine cca.10 zile pentru ca aplicatia ta sa fie
verificata,revazuta,o perioada de timp care se numeste "perioada de trimitere".Faptul ca ai trimis o a-
plicatie nu arata dreptul de posesie,doar dreptul ca trebuie validata,si acest lucru ia timp.
Incoming este o perioada de timp imediat dupa ce ai trimis aplicatia pe site.Toate canalele sunt in in-
coming pentru 72 de ore(3 zile),sau cand toti suporterii au votat pozitiv aplicatia.
Pending inseamna ca aplicatia a indeplinit cererile initiale de trafic.Vei primi mesaje in canalul tau
ca aplicatia este in pending pentru 72 de ore(3 zile).
Gata pentru revazut se refera la pasul final procesului de inregistrare si canalul tau va fi revazut in
urmatoarele 2-3 zile.
Toate username-urile folosite in aplicatii trimit un mesaj cand se logheaza pe pagina sau la X pe mirc,
astfel avand oportunitatea de a fi descoperit.Daca cineva trimite un mesaj de suport spunand "Nu mi-am
dat acordul" sau "Nu il cunosc pe tipul asta" sau "Scoate-ma din lista ta",atunci ai dat-o in bara.Apli-
catia ta va fi respinsa,emailul tau va fi afectat pentru 3 zile si nu vei putea da la inregistrare cana-
lul pana se termina perioada.Fii sigur ca username-urile pe care le-ai sunt oameni pe care ii cunosti(si
ai incredere ca nu te vor dezamagi) si ca sunt activi in canalul tau.
O simpla propozitie de pe pagina noastra de inregistrat,autorizata de cel mai ingaduitor admin,suna cam
asa:Inregistrarea canalului nu inseamana sa iti faci un canal nou.Asta inseamana pentru canalele anteri-
or facute sa aibe o oportunitate de a avea stabilitate.Daca esti prima data la crearea unui canal,atunci
incepe sa folosesti canalul tau si dai timp daca este rezonabil si daca merita sa fie inregistrat.Vom
sti daca nu ai traficul cerut pentru inregistrare si vei irosi 6-8 zile in perioada de trimitere afland
ce noi stiam.O data ce canalul tau "se va misca",atunci inregistrarea va fi chiar usoara.Daca inca "nu
misca",atunci ai rabdare pana cand "se misca".
Sa ne uitam la lucrurile de care aveti nevoie pentru a va inregistra pe site-ul nostru:http://cservice.
undernet.org/live .Intai trebuie sa va logati,introducati username-ul si parola in casuta adresata de pe
site.Dupa aceea dati click pe linkul "Register a Channel" din stanga.Cititi AUP-ul cu atentie.Va va da
informatii vitale despre inregistrarea canalului.Daca sunteti de acord dati click pe "I ACCEP THE ABOVE"
Daca nu sunteti de acord este o incalcare a AUP-ul atunci nu va puteti inregistra canalul.
Ca manager de canal esti responsabil pentru canal si sa ai grija ca userii si opi canalului sa urmeze
indicatiile,va rog sa le cititi inainte de a purcede.Site-ul merge automat asa ca trebuie sa gandesti la
fiecare pas a procesului...asa ca trebuie sa fii pregatit.Realizeaza ca Cservice primeste 150 de aplica-
tii pe zi...peste 1000 pe saptamana!Ajuta-te singur si pe noi prin urmarea pasilor.
Pregatiti urmatoarele informatii INAINTE ca sa purcedeti:1)Informatia canalului:#numele canalului,des-
crierea...2)Informatii despre manager:Aceasta este informatia ta personala...3)Informatii despre supor-
teri:10 username-uri.
Numele canalului nu trebuie sa fie inregistrat si sa cuprinda numai cu litere si numere.De asemenea,nu-
mele TREBUIE sa descrie canalulul intr-un fel(ex.: #!!!:P nu este acceptat).
Descrierea se refera la motivul intrarii userilor pe canal...ex.:#CarTalk-reparari auto.Cat timp Cser-
vice nu cenzureaza canalul,DAR canalelor nu le este permisa activitatile ilegale,ca schimburi de crack-
uri si pornografie.
Informatiile managerului sunt importante ca sa te putem contacta daca este nevoie.Asigurate ca informa-
tiile despre username-ul tau sunt corecte,vor fi tinute confidentiale.
Cei 10 suporteri care i-ai pus vor fi avertizati de X daca viitoare cand se logheaza.Afla ca ei sunt
suporteri,NU necesar useri pe care planuiesti sa ii faci opi.O data ce canalul este inregistrat,manage-
rul este singurul care are acces la X..atunci adaugi acei oameni la niveluri apropiate.
Nici sa nu va ganditi sa inregistrati mai mult de un canal-daca incercati,le veti pierde pe amandoua,de
indata!Cservice afiseaza aplicatiile din mai multe motive:abuzatori cunoscuti,activitati interzise,su-
porterii lui Bogus,multiple inregistrari si multe altele.
Cu asta in minte,realizati ca inregistrand un canal,esti de acord sa ai grija de acest privilegiu prin
prevenirea abuzurilor si intelegerea regulilor.Sa mergem sa vedem cum sa iti pastrezi canalul de a nu fi
facut "purge",ai muncit din greu pentru a ajunge aici.Sunt doua cai pentru a pierde serviciile lui X
din canalul tau:Abandon(sau aparenta absenta) si Abuz.Se poate intampla asta din rautatea altora,si este
esential sa aveti dovezi.Facand "purge" lui X de pe canalul tau este... este un lucru foarte rau ®.Un
manager de canal are o mare responsabilitate care ia timp si implicare.Ai fost de acord sa ai grija de
ce se intampla,chiar daca nu esti online.Incepe sa previi "purge-ul" pentru absenta ta sau pentru trafic
scazut.Nivelul tau de 500 este cheia.Trebuie sa te loghezi astfel incat acel access sa nu aiba o absenta
mai mare de 21 de zile.CService ia o lista a tuturor managerilor care nu au reusit sa se logheze astfel.
Ei se vor uita la canal si vor decide daca vor face "purge" la canal sau vor gasi un alt manager.Decizia
este a lor si este finala.Un canal inregistrat poate fi luat daca managerul lipseste 21 de zile.Sunt o
multime de motive pentru care managerul lipseste.Noi recomandam ca managerul sa se autentifice macar la
21 de zile,de obicei canalele nu li se fac "purge" si sunt facute sa fie reinregistrate asa de repede.
Noi incercam sa decidem daca managerul este intr-adevar prezent dar nu se poate autentifica pentru ca
si-a pierdut parola.Daca managerul intr-adevar nu este dar canalul are trafic,noi incercam sa ajungem la
un consens si sa gasim alt manager si sa nu se mai inregistreze o data canalul.
Canalelor carora li s-a facut "purge" din cauza lipsei managerului de obicei nu au trafic deloc si sunt
deschise pentru reinregistrare.Tine-ti minte canalul inca apartine comunitatii care sta acolo si consen-
sul lor va fi cerut pentru alegerea unui nou manager.
Daca vrei sa iti schimbi ISP-ul foloseste forma email change de pe http://cservice.undernet.org dand
click pe "web interface".Trebuie sa fii in stare sa te loghezi pe username pentru a schimba adresa de
email.Singura noastra cale de a verifica ca tu esti managerul canalului este prin "email of record",ema-
ilul care a fost folosit pentru crearea username-ului.Orice contact a Cservice-ului cu managerul canalu-
lui este facut prin aceasta adresa de email.De aceea Cservice are adresa de email a fiecarui manager de
canal.Orice manager de canal sau user cu nivel de acces 500 trebuie sa upgradeze casuta sa de email cu
Cservice pentru a se mentine ca manager a canalului.Fa asta INAINTE de a-ti schimba ISP-ul,astfel ca noi
sa vedem cererea ta din emailul actual si sa stim ca esti tu cu intr-adevar.
Cauza principala este ignoranta sistemului nostru.Este doar un singur cont de 500 si este acordat mana-
gerului cand aplicatia lui este acceptata.De obicei un manager va trebuie sa atribuie unui al doilea
user un nivel de 499,ca sa se poata loga.Ceea ce neglijeaza managerul sa spuna Cservice-ului este ori ca
si-a pierdut adresa de email sau parola de la accesul de 500.Daca nu te autentifici un cont de 500,noi
nu avem de unde sa stim ca esti cu adevarat autentificat.Acest procedeu este simplu si se poate rezolva
la http://cservice.undernet.org apasand click pe "Web Interface".Acolo vei gasi linkul "Forgotten Pass-
word".
Lista userilor este alta modalitate pentru traficul canalului.CAt de des userii intra pe canal si isi
iau op FARA sa se logheze?Rezultatul este acela ca acei useri care apar sa aibe acces la X nu sunt luati
in calcul.Ai grija:canalele cu putina activitate din partea userilor si a managerului vor fi date la
"purge".Previne canalul tau ca sa nu apara ca inactiv,trafic scazut sau idle INTOTDEAUNA prin logarea la
X cu parola!Si spune-le opilor tai sa faca la fel.
De asemenea canalele vor fi date la "purge" pentru abuzurile opilor si userilor:Abuz la..1)X...2)Useri..
3)Alte canale..si 4)Dezinteresul fata de activitatile ilegale.Tinand cont de faptul ca managerul este in
cele din urma responsabil,fii sigur ca stii de ceea ce considera Undernet abuz ca sa fii in stare sa re-
cunosti unul si sa-l previi inainte sa supui canalul riscului.Undernet are o politica concisa fata de
abuzuri:"toleranta zero".Adminii serverului si Ircopi colaboreaza ca sa detecteze si sa indeparteze clo-
nele,floodurile si pe cei care ii hartuiesc pe ceilalti useri.De fapt,unul dintre canalele unde poti
gasi ajutor pentru abuz este #zt..insemnand toleranta zero.
1)Abuz de X:Cand se da kick sau deop X-ului,nu se pot face aceste lucruri de obicei,orice efort sa fa-
ceti acestea Cservice va avea o reactie imediata.De cele mai multe ori este un bot sau script,asa ca in-
sistati ca TOTI botii sa fie setati astfel incat sa nu interactioneze cu X.
2)Abuz de useri:Probabil multi dintre voi ati primit flood sau serviciile v-au fost atacate.Orice canale
care gazduiesc si permit astfel de atacuri imediat sunt supuse riscului de a fi date la "purge" si si-ar
putea dreptul de a mai fi reinregistrate.Multitudinea de mesaje sau de invitatii sunt tot abuzuri.Aler-
tati-va userii si raportati astfel de incidente pe #Cservice.Esti responsabil pentru orice lucru care
este facut de opi de pe canalul tau.Este important ca sa realizezi ca opii care i-ai ales indica perso-
nalitatea ta si a canalului tau asa ca ei trebuie sa se poarte bine pe net.Un user care face invitatii
abuzive,floodeaza useri sau canale,take-uri pe canale,cat timp este autentificat ca user al unui canal
inregistrat face acel canal,si pe tine,responsabili.
3)Abuz la alte canale:Atacurile si takeover-urile facute pe alte canale,inregistrate sau nu,sunt date la
"purge".Nota:"ei au inceput-o" NU este un motiv plauzibil.Raportati orice incident,in loc sa faceti si
voi abuz.
4)Activitati interzise:Faptele ilegale includ schimbul de crackuri sau softuri piratate,soft care strica
alte sisteme,servicii si conturi furate si implicarea in pornografie.Rezultatul nu este doar aplicarea
"purge"-ului dar si sanctionarea penala.Undernet coopereaza cu autoritatile ca sa elimine aceste abuzuri
Cat timp pe majoritatea canalelor abuzeaza fara intentie,este foarte important ca sa recunosti tot ce am
mentionat.Raporteaza incidentele prin trimitere a loguri si detalii la abuse@undernet.org.De asemenea
poti preveni abuzurile prin acordarea cu grija a acceselor...acorda acces doar userilor pe care ii stii
si in care ai incredere,si fii sigur ca ei sa ia la cunostinta ce le este permis pe canalul tau.Ei repre
zinta canalul mai ales cand tu nu esti online.
Username & Channel Registrations( http://cservice.undernet.org )":
Understanding the basic misconceptions held about Undernet Channel Services will make your username and
channel registration and maintenance experience much easier.
We'll start by learning how to create and register a username with X:
In order to use X at all or to register a channel, you need to have a username.Keep in mind,this is NOT
registering a nickname. Undernet does not provide nickname registration.Just to keep this clear.
Now, to create a username, go to our website at: http://cservice.undernet.org/live
At about the middle of the page, under the login box, there is a line labeled:"If you do nothave an
account create one now!" Click on the "Create one" link.
There are 8 steps on the next page that *MUST* be completed or you will not receive a username.They are
as follows...
*Step 1 - Age Statement* - You must specify whether or not you are above the age of 13 or not.If you are
below the age of 13, we cannot ask you personal questions such as your name or email address without
parental consent.This meaning you cannot register a username, since we cannot verify you.
*Step 2 - Choose a Username* - Here is where you pick your username.Remember,it has to be unique.There
are over 140,000 usernames. Someone probably thought of the one you want before you did.Choose it care-
fully cause you won't be able to change it later!
*Step 3 - Enter your email address* - This should be your email address, given to you by your internet
service provider. If you are unsure what your email address is, contact your provider.Free emails,such
as hotmail, yahoo, geocities, and other non-paid emails are not accepted for registration. This is due
to way to much abuse from users on these providers.
*Step 4 - Language of choice* - Here you will be able to choose the language you desire to use with X
commands replies later.
*Step 5 - Secret Question/Answer* - This is for password/username retrieval.Makes sure when you make
your selection and input in this field, you write down your answer somewhere safe and keep it.You will
need this if you forget your password.
*Step 6 - Security Code* - This is the code who prevent multiple submitions for username registrations.
Enter the code you see in the above picture into the below input box(upper/lower case doesn't matter).
*Step 7 - READ THIS INFO: Individuals are granted the use of a Channel Service username specifically to
gain access to channel services. While you need not use channel services to have a username, be aware
that attempts to register multiple usernames to the same person will result in a suspension of all the
offending names. Don't jeopardize your access to channel services by trying to register multiple user-
names on our system.
Finally,Step 8, Click on submit. After you do so, a link will be emailed to you.Make sure you have
cookies enabled in your web browser, then click on the link provided in email.
This will take you to a webpage that will give you your password. PLEASE write it down somewhere safe,
and do not lose it. It can be quite difficult to retreive your password if you lose it.
Next we`ll have a look on channel registration system and the maintainance of channels registered with X
Any unregistered channel can be registered by the first person to see fit to do so.Active unregistered
channels are owned by the groups that use them,and usually there a consensus about who are the founders,
and therefore owners, of the channels.Many applications for channel services are submitted by folks who
either have no existing relationship with the channel, or are doing so without the knowledge or support
of the channel membership.They are termed "takeover applications". Any such applications are rejected
and the applicant placed on a probation if he tries it repeatedly.The requirement for registration sup-
port on the application is 10 people,not 10 usernames.Admittedly, usernames are the only way we can ve-
rify that the 10 supporters are real,and that they actually support the applicant as manager.That is why
we require 10 usernames for supporters, generally only one e-mail address is allowed per person with an
ISP account.Supporters need to be people who frequent your channel and have helped to establish it as a
viable channel entity deserving of registration services.A channel is registered only after its applica-
tion has been accepted by CService, not after the application has been successfully submitted.It takes
10 days for your application to be reviewed, verified, checked, twisted,turned;a length of time called
the posting period.Having posted an application does indicate a claim of ownership, but the claim must
be validated, and this takes time.
Incoming is the time immediately after your application is posted on the web site.All channels are in
incoming for 72 hrs, or when all supporters have voted on the application.
Pending means the application has fulfilled the initial traffic requirements.You will receive notices in
your channel that an application is pending for 3 days (72 hours).
Ready for Review refers is the final step in the process and your channel will be reviewed in the next
2-3 days.
All usernames used on the application are sent a notice when they login on the web or to X on IRC,giving
them the opportunity to call your bluff.If someone replies to a notice of support saying "I never gave
my consent" or "I don't know this guy" or "get me off you r mailing list", then you've blown it.Your
application will be rejected, your e-mail will be blacklisted for 3 days and you won`t be able to apply
for the channel until then.Make sure that the usernames that you use are people you know (and trust not
to back stab you) and are active in your channel.
A simple quote from our registration web page, authored by a most clooful admin, is appropiate here:
"Channel registration is not meant as a means to start a new channel.It is meant for previously establi-
shed channels to have an opportunity to have some stability.If you are first starting a new channel,
then just start using your channel and give it time to see if a reasonable user base develops to justify
registration.We'll know if you don't have the required traffic for registration and you'll waste 6-8
days in the posting period finding out that we know.Once your channel is rockin`, then registration
should be fairly easy.If it doesn't yet rock,then be patient until it does.
Let's look at some of what you need to do to apply to register at our website:http://cservice.undernet.
org/live First you need to login, Enter your username and password in the box provided at the site.Then
click on the link "Register a Channel" on the left.Read the Acceptable Use Policy or AUP carefully.It
will give you vital information on Channel Registration. If you agree to bide by the AUP click on "I
ACCEPT THE ABOVE". If you do not agree or your channel is in violation of the AUP,then you can not re-
gister your channel.As a channel manager you are responsible for the channel and seeing that your cha-
nnel users and ops follow all Channel Service guidelines,so PLEASE READ IT BEFORE YOU APPLY.The auto-
mated site walks you through each step of the process..so it pays to be prepared.Realize that Cservice
gets 150 applications a day.. over 1000 a week!Help yourself and us by taking the time to follow the
steps.
Have the following information ready *before* you try to apply:1) Channel info:#channel-name,description
..2) Manager information: That your personal information 3)Supporter info: 10 Usernames.The channel name
must be not currently registered or on probation due to past abuse and it must begin with alpha-numeric
or ASCII (enhanced) characters only. Also,the name *must* describe the channel in some way (eg: #!!!:P
is unacceptable).The description refers to why users join.. eg: #CarTalk - autorepair.While Cservice
does not censor channel content, NO channels are permitted for illegal activities, such as warez trading
or child pornography.The manager's information is important so we may contact you if needed.Please make
sure that the information on your username is correct, it will be kept confidential.The 10 supporters
you enter will be notified from X next time they login.Note that they are supporters,NOT necessarily
users you plan to make Ops. Once the channel is registered,the manager is the only access that is in X..
you then add those people you choose at the appropriate levels.Don't even think of trying to register
*more* than one channel -if you try, you will lose BOTH, pronto! Cservice screens applications for many
issues: Known abusers,Prohibited activities,Bogus supporters,multiple registrations and much more.With
that in mind, realize that when you register a channel, you agree to take care of that privilege by pre-
venting abuse and understanding the rules.Let's move on to see how to keep your channel from being
purged,now that you have worked hard to get it this far.There are two main ways you can lose the servi-
ces of X in your channel:Abandonment(or apprent absence) and Abuse. Since this can happen as often out
of not knowing as out of malice,it's crucial that you have the facts. Getting X purged from your channel
is..a very bad thing ®.A channel manager has a large responsibility that takes time and commitment.You
agree to take care of what happens, *even when you are off-line*.Start by preventing a purge for your
absence or for low traffic.Your 500 level access is the key. You need to login to *that* access regula-
rly with no absence longer than 21 days.CService gets a list of all managers that have failed to login
like that.They will look at the channel and decide whether to purge the channel or seek out a new mana-
ger.The decision is theirs and is final.A registered channel is up for grabs if the manager is missing
for 21 days.There any number of reasons why a manager may be missing.We do require that a manager authen

purged and made available for reapplication so quickly.We try to establish if the manager is indeed pre-
sent but can't authenticate due to a forgotten password.If the manager is truly gone but the channel has
a lot of traffic, we try to mediate and establish who the consensus new manager should be and let the
registration remain.Channels purged for missing manager usually also have no traffic anymore and are
indeed open for reapplication. Remember that the channel still belongs to the community that resides
there,and their consensus will be required in choosing a new manager.

followed by clicking on "Web Interface".You must be able to login to your username to change the e-mail
address.Our only way of verifying who is really the manager of a channel is by their "e-mail of record",
the e-mail that was used on the application for your username.Any official contact with the manager by
CService is done with this e-mail address.That is why it is paramount that CService have a current email
of record and know it is really you.
The usual circumstance here is ignorance of our system. There is only one 500 account and it is awarded
to the manager when his application is accepted.Usually a manager will add a 499 account with a second
username, so he can still login.What the manager neglects to do is tell CService they lost their e-mail
account or password for the 500 access.If you don't authenticate a 500 account,we have no way of knowing
whether you are really there.This is a simple process and can be fixed at http://cservice.undernet.org
followed by clicking on "Web Interface". There you will see the "Forgotten Password" link.
The userlist is another key to channel activity. How often do users join and get op'd *without* logging
in? The result is that those listed with access to X appear as away longer than they really are.Beware:
channels with few active listed users as well as an hanging 500 access may be purged.Prevent your cha-
nnel from appearing as inactive,low traffic or idle by *always* logging into X with passwords!And have
your Ops do the same.
Channels also get purged for abuse by the Ops and users: Abuse of..1) X..2) Users..3)Other channels..and
4) Prohibitions against illegal activities. Since the manager is ultimately responsible,be sure you know
what Undernet considers abuse so that you can recognize and control trouble before it puts your channel
at risk.Undernet has a concise policy towards abuse: *zero tolerance*.The Server Admins and Irc Ops co-
laborate to detect and remove clones, flooders and others who harass users.In fact, one of the channels
where you can find help on abuse is #zt .. meaning zero tolerance.
1) Abuse of X: While kicking or de'opping X can't usually be done,any efforts to do so waste resources
and trigger an immediate response from CService.Often it is a bot or script, so insist that *all* such
bots disable net hack protection so they don't interfere with X.
2) Abuse of Users: Many of you have probably experienced floods or denial of service attacks.Any channel
harboring or condoning such attacks are at immediate risk and, once purged, may lose the privilege of
any re-registration.Mass messages or mass inviting is also abuse. Aside from being annoying and rude,
they are a terrible waste of bandwidth and a drain on resources. Alert your users and report any such
incidents to #CService.You are responsible for anything that is done by ops in your channel.It's impor-
tant that you realize that the ops you chose will reflect directly on you and your channel and must be-
have on the net according to the established do's and don't's.A user spamming invites, flooding users or
channels,taking over channels,while authed in a registered channel makes that channel,and you,responsa-
ble.
3) Abuse of Other Channels: Attacks or takeover attempts on other channels,whether registered or not,are
grounds to purge X.Note:"they started it" is *not* an acceptable reason to retaliate.Report any inci-
dents, instead of engaging in abuse yourself.
4) Prohibited Activities: Illegal acts include trading warez or pirated software,software used to damage
other systems, stolen services or accounts and involvement with child pornography.Not only will these
result in a purge of X but also in appropriate criminal charges.Undernet cooperates with responsible
authorities to eliminate these forms of abuse.While most channels don't harbor abuse knowingly, it's im-
portant that you recognize all we have mentioned. Report incidents by sending a timestamped log with
relevant /whois details to abuse@undernet.org.You also prevent abuse by giving Ops access carefully..
appointing only users you know and trust, and by making sure they know what your channel permits.They
represent your channel,especially when you are not online.
